Every existing building is slightly different, but in the construction industry there are many standard details, processes, and materials that stay relatively consistent for decades at a time.
Restoration Engineering is the practice of applying historical industry standards and lessons learned from dissecting and diagnosing building problems to new, complex problems on existing buildings.
Part detective work, part archeology, and a little bit like x-ray vision….applying lessons learned from opening up other buildings helps us design the right fix for your building and try to avoid costly investigative openings and materials testing.

Your building isn’t designed or intended to last forever. Many of our Clients need an unbiased review of their existing building to know what should be repaired, how it can be repaired, and what it will take in dollars, labor, access, and time to implement these repairs.
When dealing with repairs or restoration of existing buildings, there are specialty materials, approaches, contractors, and standards that apply that aren’t part of the primary industry standards. We’ve spent the past 25+ years researching, archiving, and understanding these specialty items to allow us to quickly and efficiently apply them to your project.
Restoration Engineering is that bright idea that your existing building needs.

As the Owner and Engineer in Responsible Charge of R&RE, Steve can provide agile, responsive engineering services for Clients in other states upon request. R&RE is built on the ability to adapt to the Client’s needs with straight-forward, common sense repairs, and collaboration at our core. Multi-state licensure is continually changing and challenging the practice of engineering consulting across the country.
The foundation of Repair & Restoration Engineering PLLC is that applied engineering is learned and done in the field. Travel to existing buildings for data gathering and understanding is a critical step in the process. Our practice has been established to provide responsive service to our Clients and not get bogged down in the paperwork of multi-state licensure.
